![]() ![]() The symbol is made of a circle balancing a crescent upon it’s top, representing things that will come to grow and develop outwardly into the world through the spirit’s stable source of energy below, similar to a womb that holds new life. The glyph for Taurus is that of a bull’s head and horns symbolizing the sign’s strength, endurance and determination. The ram was placed in the stars as the constellation Aries in honor of his courage. The ram, himself, was then sacrificed back to Poseidon and his golden fleece was hung upon an oak tree in honor of Ares, the god of war. Later, in Greek mythology, Aries symbolized the ram with golden fleece born of Poseidon and Theophane who was sent to rescue the cloud goddess Nephele’s children from sacrifice. This placed Aries at the start of the Babylonian calender year and began the zodiac wheel. Before it took on the symbol of a ram, it was known as MUL.LU.HUN.GA or ‘the hired man’, and marked the northern spring equinox taking on the title of bringing forth new life. Since the 7th century BCE, Babylonians have been noting the rising, setting and culmination dates of the constellation we know today as Aries. Similarly, you see the soul begin as one at the bottom and split into two at the top, signifying the journey self awareness. This shows the soul learning it’s identity through the duality of it’s existence and creation. The glyph is formed out of two crescent, shapes symbolizing the soul reflecting upon itself. It is symbolic of the assertive, pushing nature of the ram itself and indicates the ability to face opponents (challenges) head on. The glyph for Aries is similar to a ram’s horns. ![]() I do not support an alleged ’13th’ sign called Ophiuchus- while this is a constellation, it is not primarily located upon the ecliptic which defines the zodiac I reference the Babylonian MUL.APIN frequently due to it’s accuracy and antiquity There’s a ton of stuff to go over in depth, but this is a quick overview for now so that you’re familiar with the 12 signs and how each affect you in their own way. Every sign will have information for their tropical and sidereal date spans, planetary ruler and ruling house, the element, mode and polarity plus the planets that are either exalted, in detriment or at fall in each sign. That way all you awesome pinners’ and sharers’ out there can join in on the fun too! Regular paragraphs can become quite boring, don’t you know )įirst, here’s a key chart so that you know what each of the different sections pertain to. In this post I’m also going to try a different teaching approach which I hope will be a little bit more fun to learn from- I’ve actually created some awesome tables for each zodiac sign with their correspondences, or basic information, listed in a super easy to read format. ![]() Now, these aren’t necessarily Sun or Moon signs, or any of the other planetary entities in your chart for that matter, but the meaning behind the actual signs themselves! I’ll go in depth on each planet in all 12 signs at a later time, but for right now we’ll focus on learning who, exactly, these signs are first. Every sign has it’s strengths and weaknesses, but why? Or more importantly, how? Who decided long ago that Aries was the most brave, or Capricorn the most ambitious? These are all questions I hope to help answer in this post about the symbolic meaning of the 12 signs and their metaphorical archetypes. I have a Libra Moon and you bet your ass I’m indecisive as hell! Not to mention my elitist, ‘rebel without a cause’ Aquarius Sun. The stereo types of the zodiac are endless, and rather amusing if you try and look at it from a comical perspective. If you’re a Scorpio I bet you’re sick of hearing just how obsessed with sex you are. Let me guess, you’re a Gemini who’s been told that they’re hypocritical or two-faced? Or maybe you’re a Cancer who’s offended you’ve been labeled a sensitive, moody jerk. ![]()
